Pesticide residue analysis is a vital aspect of testing to ensure a safe supply of fresh produce to consumers. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency regulates that approximately 10,000 samples must be tested annually for chemical residues. To accommodate these regulations, laboratories require robust and efficient pesticide analysis processes. In order to carry out quantitation of pesticides in fruits and vegetables, CARO Analytical Services utilizes a QuEChERs extraction method with complementary LC/MS/MS and GC/MS/MS data analysis. In combination with streamlined data analysis workflows, these methods allow us to carry out part-per-billion level quantitative analysis on more than 350 samples on a monthly basis.

Benefits of Chemical Ionization in GC-MS/MS Analysis using Xevo TQ-GC
This Technology Brief demonstrates how, by using the dedicated CI ionization source available on the Xevo TQ-GC, which was designed for extended robustness and rapid tool-free changeover, both EI and CI experiments can be performed on the same system. Switching between EI and CI on the system is very simple with no tools required, and the changeover takes less than 10 min.

Determination of 208 Pesticide Residues and their Metabolites in Foods using Oasis PRiME HLB and Xevo TQ-GC
In this application note, foodstuffs of plant origin were further cleaned using Oasis PRiME HLB following QuEChERS extraction and run on the Xevo TQ-GC to quantify 208 pesticides and their metabolites in fruits and vegetables. This simple pass-through cleanup is readily incorporated into the QuEChERS workflow to maintain accuracy and precision in the quantitative performance, while improving overall method robustness.

Determination of Pesticide Residues in QuEChERS Extracts of Fruit Commodities using Xevo TQ-GC
In this application note we describe a multiresidue GC-MS/MS method for the determination of pesticide residues in fruit commodities, with extraction using the QuEChERS workflow. The Xevo TQ-GC System provided excellent, fit-for-purpose performance in terms of linearity and calibration range for both organic raisin and apple. The trueness and precision of the GC-MS/MS method determined at three QC levels was found to be acceptable with the representative compounds shown, giving %RSD <10%.
